OUR FARM

Oaklane Orchards has been growing high quality, farm fresh apples, pears, and plums since 1973.  In 2018, the Fox and Close families bought the orchard and expanded the acreage from 50 to 130 acres by merging with an adjacent farm.  We have since added 6,200 new trees bringing the farms total to approximately 45,000 trees!

Future Harvest 

Damson Plums

Damson plums are small, round and dark purple with intense colour and flavour. Damon's tartness and spiciness are ideal for making jams, jellies and preserves.

Mount Royal Plums

Mount Royal Plum is a  blue round fruit with purple overtones and gold flesh.  Mount Royal plums have a sweet taste and a juicy texture and can be used for eating, baking, preserves, or canning.

Northern Spy Apples: Available October 15th

Northern Spy apples are a very late season, large and stout apple with carmine red skin married with streaks of yellow and pale green. Its tender-crisp flesh is creamy yellow and juicy. It imparts a bit of a tartness in its bite, but more of a cider-quality flavor with hints of pear and sweetness.

Red Delicious Apples: Available October 15th

Red Delicious apples are medium sized and dark red with white spots visibly dotting the surface. The fine-grained flesh is creamy white, crisp and juicy and offers a mildly sweet taste with flavors of melon.

Ambrosia Apples: Available October 15th

Ambrosia apples are golden to butter-yellow in color with red to pink blushing covering the surface. The light-yellow to cream-colored flesh is crisp, tender and juicy.  It has a sweet, honeyed flavor and low acidity.

Idared Apples: Available October 20th

Idared apples are both sweet and tart, juicy, yet crisp and firm. The best fruits have a sprightly, aromatic, and refreshing flavor.

Italian Plum

Italian plums are a sweet, oblong fruit and are known for their sweet flavour that becomes deeper with baking. You can eat them fresh and plain, but they are best used for baking.  The firm skin helps them hold up well when baked, and the sweet flavour deepens and becomes more complex when exposed to heat.

German Prunes are great for fresh eating and due to their drier than average nature, are great for baking into traditional German plum desserts.

Bartletts are extremely aromatic pears, and have a definitive pear flavour.  Bartletts are much more than just a canning pear, and besides eating them fresh, you can also enjoy their wonderful flavor and smooth texture on a  garden salad or serve with cheese.
